Youth Worker Position (1 year Fixed-term)

Whakatipu Youth Trust is seeking a motivated, enthusiastic youth worker for a 40-hour-weekday, fixed-term position commencing in February 2024.

This is a 1 year Fixed – Term position, covering sabbatical leave.

  • Ideally you will be experienced in working with and mentoring male youth in a one-to-one capacity, as well as, delivering outcomes-based programmes for young males. 
  • You will have excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) and a high level of computer literacy, self-management, and personal integrity.
  • Preference will be given to those who have a minimum of two years experience working with youth, a relevant qualification, and a commitment to working in Queenstown. 
  • Must have long-term secure accommodation in Queenstown. 
  • A current full clean New Zealand driver’s license is essential, and you must be legally entitled to work in NZ.
  • Applicants should have NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa and be fully vaccinated for Covid-19.

Youth Mental Health Professional

We are looking for an enthusiastic people person who wants to be part of a team that is passionate about making a positive difference in the lives of Rangatahi!

Whakatipu Youth Trust (WYT) provides a range of youth social services, programmes, activities and events for rangatahi aged between 10 and 24 years living in the Queenstown Lakes district. WYT are an experienced, innovative, energetic and fun team that creates a supportive, safe, environment focusing on the overall wellbeing and happiness of rangatahi.

We are looking for an exceptional and experienced Youth Mental Health Professional to join our passionate team of specialist kaimahi. We are offering a unique opportunity to work within a diverse multidisciplinary group that delivers, mild to moderate interventions, social work, youth work, mentoring, programmes, and events amongst many other things!

This role is all about engaging and supporting rangatahi aged 10- 24 years to achieve improved wellbeing, achievable, strengths-based outcomes and goals along with sustainable positive life skills learning.

Qualifications and attributes required for this role:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification and is eligible and/or has a level of registration
  • Providing a mix of intervention models and assessments for youth
  • Understanding of youth culture and youth development.
  • Recent/previous work experience with rangatahi.
  • Practical understanding of and commitment to Te Tiriti O Waitangi and its principles.
  • Commitment to continuing professional/personal development with the ability to be self-reflective
  • Good sense of humour
  • Current clean full driver licence.
  • Commitment to being an active participant of a holistic interdisciplinary team.
  • Ability to work independently and work unsupervised.
  • Be organised and have good time management skills.
  • Motivation, empathy, energy and initiative.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Commitment to delivery of a quality service.

This exciting and challenging role offers you the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of rangatahi in the Queenstown Lakes area. You will be working in a fun, dynamic, supportive team environment alongside passionate, professionals committed to supporting rangatahi to be the best they can be!

This is a full-time role working 40 hrs per week, Monday to Friday. The salary range is dependent on qualifications and experience.
